EPHY Studio – UX Design and Strategy

Overview

Life Care was undergoing a significant organisational transition, moving away from residential aged care and retirement living to focus exclusively on Home Care and Allied Health services.

Working alongside award-winning designer Ephy Studio, who led the visual identity and user experience design, my role was to develop a new digital platform that reflected the organisation’s evolving direction while supporting accessibility, multilingual audiences and long-term growth.

Challenge

The existing website no longer accurately reflected the organisation’s structure, services or strategic focus.

As the business evolved, services that should have felt connected were being perceived as separate business units, creating confusion for clients and reducing overall brand clarity.

At the same time, the website needed to cater to a diverse audience that included older Australians, family members, carers and healthcare professionals. Accessibility, readability and ease of navigation were critical to ensuring the platform remained inclusive and effective for all users.

The challenge was creating a unified digital experience that strengthened trust, improved accessibility and clearly communicated the organisation’s new direction.

Approach

The website was developed around a highly accessible and user-focused content structure designed to support both current and future service offerings.

Working from Ephy Studio’s thoughtfully crafted designs, development focused on delivering a platform that prioritised usability, accessibility and performance.

Key initiatives included:

  • Development of a custom WordPress CMS.
  • Multilingual functionality through WPML integration.
  • Accessibility-focused implementation aligned with WCAG guidelines.
  • Enhanced readability through scalable typography and high-contrast design support.
  • Keyboard navigation and screen reader considerations.
  • Mobile-first responsive development.
  • Performance optimisation and security improvements.
  • Analytics integration to support ongoing measurement and improvement.

The content architecture was also carefully structured to present Home Care and Allied Health services as part of a cohesive organisation rather than disconnected offerings.

Result

The result was a modern, accessible and future-focused digital platform that more accurately represented Life Care’s new organisational direction.

The improved information architecture strengthened connections between services, creating a clearer and more cohesive experience for visitors. Accessibility enhancements ensured the platform better served its diverse audience, while multilingual capabilities expanded the organisation’s ability to communicate with broader communities.

The website now provides a scalable foundation that supports both operational requirements and future growth initiatives.

Why this project was interesting

What made this project particularly rewarding was the opportunity to contribute to a broader organisational transformation rather than simply a website refresh.

Accessibility was not treated as a compliance exercise but as a fundamental part of the user experience. Every decision, from navigation and content structure to typography and language support, needed to consider the needs of people accessing important healthcare information.

Projects like this highlight how digital experiences can play a meaningful role in building trust, improving access to services and supporting organisations through periods of significant change.
